Hong Kong Victoria Peak
A premiere attraction of the Hong Kong island is Victoria Peak, the tallest mountain in the city and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Hong Kong. Victoria Peak, or the Peak, as it is commonly referred to, attracts seven million visitors every year and is perhaps the biggest tourist attraction in Hong Kong. It offers spectacular views of the city and harbors.
During Spring you may need a raincoat and there may not be much of a view from the cloud-enveloped Victoria Peak. By May, it can also be quite hot and muggy. (from Hong Kong weather). Spring time is between March and May, when the temperature can range between 60°F and 80°F (16°C-27°C) and the humidity rises to about 84%, with fog and rain fairly common.
Peak Tower
The Peak Tower is leisure and shopping complex located near the summit of Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island. It also houses the upper terminal of the Peak Tram. The owner of Hong Kong's famous Peninsula Hotel along with many other properties owns both the Peak Tower and the Peak Tram. The tower and tram are jointly promoted by the collective branding known as The Peak.
The Peak became more famous after Madame Tussauds opened there. Madame Tussauds Hong Kong is a unique celebrity-inspired attraction that connects guests with famous people, famous events and times. Featuring five themed areas, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong provides guests with the opportunity to meet their idols and almost see them in their most real-like semblance.
Dinner at Café Deco, in the Peak Galleria, is a must-do Hong Kong experience – the view down into central Hong Kong and across the water to Kowloon defies description, day or night.
Hikers can scale the real Victoria Peak, some 140m (459ft) above the tram terminus, with vistas over Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the outlying islands.
Victoria Peak Garden
This open space is built upon the granite foundations of Mountain Lodge, a former governor's summer residence which fell into ruin and was demolished after the war. As you ascend Mount Austin Road you pass the former gatehouse on your left.
Built around 1902, it is being refurbished and will serve as historical exhibition gallery. The garden enjoys exceptional views out towards Lamma Island, particularly from the lookout point there is a refreshment kiosk.
A footpath called 'The Governor Walk' is an alternative route back down to Harlech Road.
Tours, Sights, Events related to the Peak
The Culture and Heritage Tour is a great chance to find out about the traditions that make Hong Kong tick. You start the tour with an hour-long Tai Chi lesson, either on the Hong Kong waterfront or on top of Victoria Peak. Both places are essentially different but offer equally impressive views of the city's skyline. If the weather is clear, you would be able to the view of Hong Kong's skyline. This would add excitement to your Tai-chi class.
Hong Kong's "Famed and Famous" Tour - Victoria Peak (By Tram) - The tour begins by taking the delightful Peak Tram, the funky funicular railway that is into existence since 1888 for taking to the Victoria Peak. You can also travel to the Repulse bay from there, which is one of the most famous beaches of Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Island tour starts with the Man Mo Temple. This temple was built in 1847 and is dedicated to the gods, man (literature) and mo (martial arts). You will find many fine and well-polished brass and burners in this temple. After the visit to the Man Mo Temple, you go to Victoria Peak (by tram). The tour continues by taking the delightful Peak Tram, the funky funicular railway that went into existence since 1888 for taking to the Victoria Peak. You can view the harbor and Kowloon peninsula from this peak.
The Government House main entrance faces south and is directed towards the Victoria Peak.
Ladder streets (Hollywood Road) refers to small streets that provide pathways up and down steep hills. It is primarily used as a term in Hong Kong to refer to streets running from the waterfront area to the Victoria Harbour, up towards the direction of the Victoria Peak.
The Hong Kong Zoo or Zoological and Botanical Gardens is located on the Upper Albert Road, Central are spread on the slope of Victoria Peak. The Hong Kong Zoo is a popular respite for Hong Kong residents. Come here early, around 7am, and you'll see Chinese residents going through the slow motions of tai chi.
