Food, Drink and Entertainment

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Hong Kong - Food, Drink and Entertainment

Some of the best restaurants and bars in Hong Kong can be found at Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong. Dine in the internationally acclaimed Vong, a very fashionable restaurant well-known for its' comtemporary French cuine with Asian influences.

Vong
Opened in 1997, this dynamic restaurant has quickly become a fashionable addition to the Hong Kong dining scene. Vong offers innovative French cuisine with Asian influences, a lively bar, and elegant interior.Signature dishes include both international favourites and delicate specialities that draw from the local markets in Hong Kong. The Black Plate (an inspired selection of five appetizers) is a particularly favourite dish, as is the Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake. Working with Jean-Georges on creating the menu, and operating the kitchen on a daily basis, is Lee Tak-Sum, Chef de Cuisine. But the real star is the view. Victoria Harbour in all its glory is the backdrop, against which to enjoy Vong’s unique ambience - judged best in the city by ‘Hong Kong’s Best Restaurants’ in 2003.

Man Wah
Set high on the 25th floor, this is Hong Kong’s premier Cantonese restaurant. Refurbished by acclaimed designer Don Ashton to immediate and continued success, Man Wah seats 62 guests. It includes an exquisite private room, Tsui Yin Ting, which is styled on an old Chinese pavilion and accommodates 12 in comfort at a round table.
Local rosewood is used throughout, giving a rich depth to the decor. Around the walls hang 10 exclusively commissioned original silk paintings by David Wong, depicting traditional Mandarins. Lacquered enamel and gold-plated ceiling lamps resemble birdcages, and are complemented by glazed, antique flower vases coloured a classic deep red. Man Wah is open daily for lunch and dinner and offers a traditional Cantonese menu and seasonal specialities. Signature dishes include sautéed fillet of sole with green vegetables in black bean sauce, steamed crab claws and stuffed prawns in supreme sauce, and poached pear in tangerine tea. Dim Sum is served on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Mandarin Grill
The esteemed atmosphere of The Mandarin Grill attracts the most powerful figures in Hong Kong’s business community. Billion dollar deals are signed and celebrated within its walls, and it’s a mark of its popularity that, whatever the time of day, reservations are almost always necessary. Its split-level dining with side and back galleries provide privacy at lunchtime and intimacy at dinner. The decor is quietly but distinctly underlined by timeless murals from Hong Kong-based artist Gerard D'Henderson.

Breakfast spans all possibilities, from kippers, kedgeree, bacon and eggs to a comprehensive selection of cereals, fruit, muesli and bread. The extensive lunch and dinner menus feature classic favourites, monthly seasonal specialties and vegetarian choices. And to finish the week, there’s our famous Sunday brunch, where the whole family is welcome. A carefully chosen wine list with more than 400 options is designed to impress the connoisseur.

The Café
The emphasis of The Café is on style, with an interior that blends warm textures, rich colours, and dramatic focal points. Delicate mosaic floors and arched gold-stencilled columns emphasise the elegance. They’re displayed to perfection by the natural daylight that streams in through the full length windows by day, or lit by lamps fashioned from Chinese umbrellas after dark.

The menu represents a growing trend towards more casual dining. The key is eclectic natural produce, and proves that simple dishes can still be creative, typified by selections like baked oysters, grilled mushroom salad and pan-fried fillets of sole with whiskey hollandaise. A choice of wines from different regions of the world are available by both the glass and bottle, offering excellent value for money. The Café is a great all-day dining venue and just as popular with night owls, since last orders are taken at a very accommodating 12:45am.

Clipper Lounge
Located on the mezzanine floor overlooking the busy lobby, The Clipper Lounge is furnished with large, comfortable seats and low tables. It’s a favourite with Hong Kong’s most esteemed residents, and takes its name from the great, golden figurehead that stands guard at the head of the entrance staircase. Originally designed for the prow of the sailing ship in the film “Billy Budd”, the carving was transported to Hong Kong in 1963 by set designer Don Ashton, to complete his interior design.

Both lunch and dinner buffet are served, as is our famous afternoon High Tea that comes elegantly presented on silver stands. It features treats like finger sandwiches, sweets and scones as well as the hotel’s signature rose-petal jam. And if that’s not enough luxury for one afternoon, Champagne and canapés are also served between 3pm-8pm.

Captain's Bar
Open right through from 11am-2am, this bar has been a permanent fixture since the day Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, first opened its doors. Whilst it’s undoubtedly a place where business is done, the ambience is anything but formal, with the chess board design of the screens reflected in the portable bar tables and playing card patterned fabric of our inviting chairs and sofas.
Our resident group, the Tony Carpio Band, add to the lively atmosphere six nights a week, while a jazz trio entertains on Sunday.

Chinnery Bar
This bar was named after the famous British artist George Chinnery who lived and painted in Hong Kong and Macau. It’s an intimate retreat, with Chinnery reproductions on wood panelled walls, and deep armchairs and leather banquettes set in cosy bays. Beneath its decorative beamed ceiling, lamps suffuse a warm glow that softly illuminates brass wine racks.
The Chinnery Bar serves traditional home-style cuisine for lunch and dinner, including favourites like Bangers & Mash, Stilton Soup and Steak & Kidney Pie. It’s also the place to unwind with a selection from our choice of international newspapers and magazines – perhaps with a snack and a glass of wine, or a single-malt whisky from one of the most extensive collections to be found anywhere in Asia.

Cake Shop
Begin with savoury, like a slice of freshly baked quiche, sandwich, tempting salad or selection of canapés. Then move on to something sweet and irresistible, like a generous portion of Mandarin Oriental's cheesecake, our signature chocolate truffle cake or a perfect French pastry. The Mandarin Cake Shop is a popular shopping location too, with our homemade XO sauce and rose petal jam high on many people’s lists. No wonder our recipes are requested worldwide.
