Hong Kong Hotels and Accommodation

Hongkong Hotels

The hotels themselves are a reflection of Hong Kong – modern, compact, energetic and efficient – with service just a bit too rushed. Expect staff to be hurried and doing several things at once.

Be warned that rooms in the territory tend to be half the size of those in other cities. Some can be comically small with not enough room to swing a spring roll, let alone a cat.

In spite of the large number of hotel rooms available in Hong Kong, visitors are strongly advised to make an advance booking, especially during the peak season (May until November).

Hotels

Hong Kong offers a wide range of luxury hotels with all the major international chains represented. Smaller hotels specialising in "family style" hospitality can be a cheaper alternative.

There are also a number of fairly new hotels in the New Territories, providing a range of recreational facilities.

Guest Houses

Guest house accommodation, with good standards and facilities, is also available.

Grading

Though there is no grading structure as such, hotel members of the HKTA fall into one of four categories:

  1. High Tariff A Hotels
  2. High Tariff B Hotels,
  3. Medium Tariff Hotels and
  4. Hostels/Guest houses.

Self-Catering

Resort houses on the outlying islands can be hired.

Camping

Permitted in the countryside, though permission is required within the Country Park protection area.

YMCA/YWCAs

There are four main YMCA/YWCAs in Hong Kong.

Youth Hostels
