Hong Kong Weather

Summer Hong Kong weather is hot, humid, wet sticky and rainfall is at its highest. Between June and September average temperature is 28^oC. Visitors should wear light summer clothing. An umbrella is useful during this period, as are some sturdy shoes.

Winter Less humid with little rainfall, winter in Hong Kong is quite cool during the short winter months. It is advisable to bring a jacket.

Spring is sunny and dry but is less predictable than autumn.

Autumn - Best time to visit when Hong Kong weather is generally warm and dry, the rainy season has ended and the region is not shrouded in mist.

January and February are the coldest months, with temperatures often in the 50s (10°C-5°C), a pleasant time of year. Use a jacket during this time.

Spring time is between March and May, when the temperature can range between 60°F and 80°F (16°C-27°C) and the humidity rises to about 84%, with fog and rain fairly common. You may need a raincoat and there may not be much of a view from the cloud-enveloped Victoria Peak. By May, it can also be quite hot and muggy.

Hong Kong Summer is between late May to mid-September when temperatures are often in the 90s (32°C-37°C), humidity can be 90% or more. Carry a hat, sunblock, sunglasses, and plenty of bottled water with you. A light jacket is useful for air-conditioned rooms and an umbrella. Summer is also typhoon season but Hong Kong has a very good warning system.

Lightweight cottons and linens are worn during warmer months, with warmer clothes for spring and autumn evenings. It should be noted that even during the hottest weather, a jacket or pullover will be required for the sometimes fierce air conditioning indoors. Warm mediumweights are best during winter. Waterproofing is advisable during summer rains.

Typhoons | Hong Kong Weather

Typhoons can occur between late June and late September. When the local observatory hoists the typhoon signal no.8 (T8), the public are strongly advised not to venture outdoors and most transport services stop running until the signal is lowered. Flights may be disrupted/cancelled if the signal is increased to a T9 or T10.

Black Rainstorms Warning | Hong Kong Weather

When extremely high rainfall is forecast during the rainy season, the local observatory will sometimes issue a Black Rainstorm warning. Public transport services may be affected and you are advised not to leave your hotel.
