Ngong Ping Village
The Ngong Ping Village is built next to the Ngong Ping Cable Car Terminal, occupies a 15,000 square metre site and has been designed to mirror and uphold the cultural and spiritual veracity of the Ngong Ping area. Going to Ngong Ping is seeing the other side of Hong Kong, a highland in the western part of Lantau Island.
Traditional Chinese architectural designs are featured around the Ngong Ping Village which contains an assortment of shopping and dining experiences.
A number of key attractions includes the Walking with Buddha, the Monkey's Tale Theatre, the Ngong Ping Tea House, the Po Lin Monastery and Tian Tan Buddha amidst the hills which is about 34 m tall.
Take a walk around the Village and watch the entertainment by an array of street performances. Watch out for the kung-fu demonstrations, be impressed by talents of our jugglers or enjoy some Chinese acrobatic shows.
There are many hills nearby which are also attractive for some trekking. You can also visit the Ngong Ping Nature Centre to know more about the biodiversity and natural landscape of Lantau Island. Display panels are in Chinese, English and Japanese descriptions. Check out the souvenir shop and an knowledge corner that provides information about the nature. The Centre also organises guided eco-tours for visitors to explore the culture and natural resources around the Ngong Ping area.
Ngong Ping Village is now the terminus of the cable car ride Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car which travels to Tung Chung.
A youth hostel is located near the monastery.
The second highest peak, Lantau Peak, in Hong Kong is at its southeast.
