Stanley Hong Kong Shopping

Stanley Market, a large open-air marketplace, has become well known for its bargains in clothing - particularly silk garments and traditional Chinese dress - as well as toys, ornaments, luggage, souvenirs, and Chinese arts and crafts. It is a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike.

A popular market town on the sunny south side of Hong Kong Island, Stanley's relaxed ambience, crisp sea environs and bargain buys have made it world famous.

Seven days a week the open market around Stanley New Street and Stanley Market Road throbs with the passing parade of life as bargain-hunters from all over the world join in the fun of haggling with shopkeepers and stallholders.

Choose from brand-name clothing and accessories, or simply irresistible souvenirs, ornaments and other Oriental knick-knacks. The market is open from 10:30am to 6:30pm.

People are drawn here by the cheap goods that would usually fetch a much higher price elsewhere. In addition to several Chinese restaurants and a Dai pai dong, Stanley Market now also boasts its own small Häagen-Dazs shop and most recently a branch of the Dymocks Booksellers.

The biggest street markets such as Ladies' Market in Mong Kok or Stanley Market sell anything from table napkins to clothing handbags to small electronic gadgets.

You will find an interesting array of little shops selling silk garments, sportswear, art, Chinese costume jewelry and souvenirs. There are the usual oriental-looking gifts you can find and more (like ski suits). You can even get a Chinese stone seal made with your Chinese name engraved on it. You don't have a Chinese name? No problem. They will give you one on the spot.
