Tai O Village Tour
Tai O is known as the “Venice of Hong Kong” which lies to the West of Hong Kong. It is also known to be one of the most significant outlying islands of Hong Kong.
The Tai O Village Ecotour is hosted on every Friday with duration of two hours between ten in the morning till noon. The ecotourism takes place at the Tai O Village at the Lantau Island.
Tai O Village is not only attractive because it was a fishermans place but also because it is very much free from pollution. If you are seeking for complete relaxation, this is the place to be as you feel comfortable wherever you pass. It is also known to be the place pampering the culture as well as heritage.
The villagers of this place use to live in stilts houses and many could be seen even now. Earlier the people of Tai O Village made money by fishing and salt industry. Due to this reason Tai O Village is known for fresh marine products such as squids, shrimps, salted fish and lot more. The special item at Tai O is the salted shrimp sauce, which has a unique taste.
Even though earlier people depended on fishing, the present generation lives on tourism as they have found to make money on tourism rather than fishing. Now Tai O Village Ecotour is being planned by HKTB.
Earlier people used to cross the water by boats, which moved by rope pulling manually done by two villagers on the other end. But recently, it was on October 1996 that a steel bridge was constructed across the creek. With this river crossing has been made easier.
Still people would love to take the rope boat journey to experience the earlier journey methods. People love to visit Tai O Village Ecotour to enjoy the olden, classic environment.
There is no fee for the entrance into this wonderful place and due to this reason many of them prefer to visit it repeatedly.
It takes about fifteen people at a time and the meeting place is confined to be at the Tai O Bus Terminus. The bus II can take you to the meeting point, which starts at 9:15 in the morning from the bus terminus for Tai O Village near to Tung Chung.
There is certain guidance given to the people before they start the journey. They are told to wear light clothes and use sun block for sun protection. The tour would be cancelled if any announcements related to cyclones or other natural disasters are heard. It is always asked to read the instructions before starting off with the journey.
